Why the TronLink USDT fee is so high
USDT on TRON is a smart contract, and every transfer spends two network resources: energy for running the contract and bandwidth for the transaction data. TronLink's own help center puts it plainly: transfers consume energy or bandwidth as the fee, and if you don't have enough, TRX is burned instead. Most wallets hold zero energy, so TronLink simply burns TRX every time you send USDT. That burn is the "fee" you see.
Using on-chain parameters as of September 2026 (energy priced at 100 sun), here is what that looks like:

TronLink energy rental in 6 steps
The whole thing is two ordinary transfers: a small TRX payment to rent the energy, then your USDT transfer. No sign-up, no wallet connection, no approvals.
- Confirm the wallet address you'll send USDT from. Open TronLink and check that the active account is the one holding the USDT you're about to send. If you have several accounts in TronLink, switch to the right one now. Keep about 1 TRX on top of the package price: a USDT transfer uses roughly 345 bytes of bandwidth, and once your 600 free daily bandwidth is used up, about 0.35 TRX gets burned for it.
- Send the exact TRX amount from that same address. Tap Transfer on the TronLink home screen and paste the payment address

Choose TRX and enter the exact amount: 2.5 TRX for Basic, 5 TRX for Advanced, or a multiple of 2.5 for a Custom package. Review the details and sign. - Wait 3–6 seconds. Our system spots the payment and delegates energy to the address that paid. There's nothing else for you to do.
- Check that the energy has arrived. Look at your available energy in the wallet's Resources view. It should be up by about 65,000 for Basic or about 130,000 for Advanced. If the number hasn't updated yet, give it a few seconds and reopen the screen, or search your address on TronScan to see its resources.
- Send your USDT within 1 hour. Rented energy is only valid for an hour. Go back to the home screen, tap Transfer, enter the recipient address, pick USDT and enter the amount.
- On the confirmation screen, make sure it uses energy, not burned TRX. Before you sign, check the fee or resource details TronLink shows. With enough energy, the transfer should only consume energy (plus a little bandwidth). If it still says roughly 6.5 TRX or 13 TRX will be burned, the energy either hasn't arrived or isn't enough. Don't sign; go back to step 4. The exact wording varies between TronLink versions, so go by what your screen actually shows.
Basic or Advanced package?
Picking the wrong package is the number one reason people still see TRX burned after renting. The rule is simple: has the recipient address ever held USDT?

Rent Basic for a new address and you only cover half the energy, so about 6.5 TRX still gets burned for the rest. If you're not sure whether the recipient has held USDT before, look the address up on TronScan, or just go with Advanced.
Four mistakes that cost people money
1. Paying with an exchange withdrawal
Energy is delivered to whichever address paid. When you withdraw TRX from an exchange directly to our payment address, the sender is the exchange's hot wallet, so that's where the energy goes, not your TronLink. Withdraw to your own TronLink first, then pay from there.
2. Sending the wrong amount
Overpaying, underpaying, or sending a non-package amount like 2 or 3 TRX means the order can't be matched automatically. If that happens, send the payment transaction hash to our Telegram support.
3. Waiting too long to send USDT
Energy is reclaimed after 1 hour. Line up the recipient address and amount before you pay for energy, not after.
4. Signing approvals on unfamiliar sites
Renting energy should never require more than a plain TRX transfer. Any "energy service" that wants you to connect your wallet, sign an approval, or hand over a recovery phrase is a red flag. Read Is TRON energy rental safe? for the common scam patterns.
